- Server Specs: this is a bit of technical jargon! We use very high powered servers with extreme capabilities and security all our client's accounts are hosted on: Red hat Linux Enterprise 4, Duel Xeon 2.4, 4GB ram servers running a raid 1 setup with Sata2 750 GB drives. Behind all the jargon this basically entails of a very strong, secure, reliable and fast server setup.

- Data Centre Specs: this is again a bit of technical jargon! Our clients accounts are hosted in a State-of-the-art data centre your site will be accessible via a fully redundant Certified Cisco Network featuring 10 backbone providers.

Industry Scams - the stuff we don't provide:

Unfortunately as the Hosting industry became more condensed with hosting service providers many decided they would compete with each other in ways that have led to hosting industry scams in order to gain and keep clients.

We recognise that this form of competition for clients only makes the service worse, so ultimately we do not compete but rather spend our energy in what we can give and improve upon. The following is things that should be strongly avoided.

- Outsourcing: this isn't so much a scam but a lack in service from a provider that you should be aware of. Outsourcing is where a hosting provider's support is handled by another business (that specialises in handling others support), so in actual fact the person answering your emails and viewing your info isn't an employee of the hosting provider you signed up with!

All the support you receive from Smp Business Hosting is by an employee of Smp Business Hosting and this will never change we believe that outsourcing support is not the way forward!

- Unlimited Plans & features: this is by far the worst scam in the hosting industry, some providers claim to offer unlimited space and bandwidth/ transfer and generally have quite cheap prices. The problem lies here that it is physically impossible to offer these, a bin can only hold so much rubbish - well a hard drive can only hold so much files! Realistically it is false advertising and lying to the clients about what they are actually getting.

- Yearly Payments: we already addressed this in the 'no contract' section but to reiterate - yearly payment plans are a thing to stay clear of for a few reasons; when you purchase a yearly hosting plan you may pay around £50, imagine a month and a half in your appalled by their service or the company is having financial problems, you will have paid for 11 months of hosting you don't want or cant use!

Domain Registration: this type of scam is generally used to keep clients even if they want to leave. When you sign up for a hosting account you need the domain for your site so you purchase it from your host and the provider sets it up for you, later you decide to leave but the provider has the domain and is not willing to give it to you. It doesn't matter that you ordered it and initially paid for it - if the details in the whois (domain database) are not in your name with your details it's not your domain.

If you choose to purchase your domain from us we will maintain it until you wish it be released to you. If you decide to leave us or change host we will release the domain into your full control, this is backed up in our terms of service contract.
